ClassGraphic One of Oscar Wilde's most enduringly popular plays, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” lampoons Victorian etiquette and standards. Its high farce and witty dialogue have helped make this play a perennial favorite for more than 100 years. Participants will learn about Oscar Wilde, study the play, examine social conventions of late Victorian London, discuss marriage and class struggles, identify farcical moments, evaluate honesty, and debate the proper amount of sugar in one’s tea. Additionally, we will plan an optional visit to Contemporary Theater Company in Wakefield, RI to see a production of the play.
