Tree and Shrub Identification: Around Campus

ClassGraphic Beginning with an in class introduction to basic characteristics of trees and shrubs, tools and processes, participants will then head outside to learn in an outdoor setting how to identify local trees and shrubs, those commonly found in Rhode Island nature and landscapes. When done with the course, participants will be able to confidently identify 40-50 local trees and shrubs.

Please read:  Suggested reading: Trees and Shrubs of Northeast and North Central US and Southeast and South Central Canada (Peterson Field Guide®), George A. Petrides (Author/Illustrator), Roger Tory Peterson (Illustrator).

Please note: Participants will need to be able to walk abot a half-mile, some of it on uneven ground. We will be standing/walking about a mile during each 90- minute session.

Recommended:Good walking shoes, pocket knife, small hand lens or magnifying glass, reading glasses.
