« back to classes page
Although you will almost never see them in paintings of the Revolution, women played an important part in the Revolutionary era, both before and during the actual warfare. As women of the press, the Daughters of Liberty, spies, combatants, officers' wives (including Martha Washington and Catherine Greene), and camp followers, they made their contributions to the fight for independence.
