ClassGraphic Have you ever had the desire to create a portrait of a family member or friend ? or even a pet? With charcoal or oil pastels and using a photograph as a reference, you will produce a likeness of your subject as well as a fine piece of art. with a loose, sketchy, yet fresh look. Class exercises will include demonstrations with both media and discussions about working from live models as well as photographs.

Notice

Please read:  Supplies needed:
  • Students should bring a few soft charcoal sticks, a set of 12 to 24
  • Oil pastel crayons, a soft, kneaded eraser
  • Tissue or paper towel
  • An old (expired) credit card
  • Small pad of toned paper (such as Strathmore Toned Gray) and/or pad of watercolor paper.
  • Additionally, students may bring along any favorite prints or photos they would enjoy expressing in charcoal and/or oil pastel.
  • Optionally, the students may bring any other dry medium not mentioned (such as colored pencil).
