James Baldwin & Toni Morrison: Banned at West Point

ClassGraphic The current United States secretary of defense has announced that certain book titles judged to be critical of our nation will be banned from courses and libraries at West Point and other U.S. military academies. The U.S. Naval Academy, for example, recently removed 381 books from its library. The works of two noteworthy American writers, James Baldwin and Toni Morrison, have been banned. This course will examine two of the banned books by these noteworthy African American authors: Baldwin's 1962 narrative, The Fire Next Time, and Morrison's 1987 novel set during the time of slavery, Beloved.
