Stop the Bleed is a hands-on training designed to empower everyday people to save lives in emergencies involving severe bleeding. Participants learn how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and gain the confidence to act quickly and effectively before professional help arrives.

The course covers:
  • Scene safety and bleeding assessment
  • Proper use of tourniquets and wound packing
  • Applying direct pressure and other bleeding control techniques
  • Real-world practice with training materials
This training is critically important because uncontrolled bleeding is one of the leading causes of preventable death following trauma. By learning these simple yet powerful techniques, participants become immediate responders—capable of making the difference between life and death in the minutes that matter most.

This Stop the Bleed course will be taught by members of the Rhode Island Medical Reserve Corps (RI MRC) — a team of trained medical and public-health volunteers who bring real-world emergency response and hands-on teaching experience. RI MRC members include healthcare professionals and public-health practitioners who volunteer their time to support the state’s preparedness and response efforts.
