CourseGraphic Starting with the first woman known to bear arms under the American flag, this program traces the exploits of those brave women who, sometimes dressed in male attire, fought in the defense of their country. Rhode Island’s own Kady Brownell, who fought beside her husband in the Civil War, is one of the heroic figures presented. The lecture also includes spy stories and traces the changing role of women in the military up to today.
