ClassGraphic Stanley Carpenter will present a look back at World War II in Europe, from the Battles of Britain and the Atlantic, 1939–43, to the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944-January 1945. He’ll discuss the German Navy’s use of their submarine (U-boat) forces to disrupt British shipping, the German invasion of France, and their attempt to invade England. We’ll learn about major Allied operations, including Neptune, Overlord, and D-Day, that helped push German forces back towards the German homeland. He’ll follow with Operation Market Garden, the attempt to establish an Allied bridgehead across the Rhine River in the Netherlands and why it failed. Finally, we’ll discuss the Battle of the Bulge and Germany’s last efforts to stop the Allied advance.
