ClassGraphic Did you read banned books in high school? Many classics from the high school curriculum   face banning and challenges from parents and community activists. In this class we will explore the controversies around four titles often required for high school students, and discuss the elements that complainants say are grounds for banning, such as offensive language, powerful anti-slavery messages, violence, suppression of dissent, suicide and sex. We'll also examine the redeeming qualities, and value to society, that make them still relevant and important today. Please re-read each book, even if you think you remember them well, because we will take a deep dive into these works.
