« back to classes page
ClassGraphic World War I is no longer in living memory, but a trove of material evoking the era survives in newspapers, photographs, and more. To mark the centennial of the 1918 armistice, Jessica Wilson organized a year's worth of programming for the South Kingstown Public Library and researched the active local home front. Session 1 will provide an overview of the historical context in which the town experienced World War I, focusing on international, national, and statewide factors, including weather. Session 2 will introduce individuals and events shaping the home front experience, including military census takers; Liberty Loan parades; Red Cross drives; letters home from local soldiers; and the 1919 Welcome Home event.
