ClassGraphic In 1882, a young Black woman named Annie Cutler leaves her quiet life in Newport to follow her dashing new boyfriend to Philadelphia with the belief that they will soon be married. Unfortunately, her fiancé turns out to be a philandering scam artist who leaves the naive young girl ruined, penniless, and humiliated. Follow the story of Annie Cutler's betrayal, her revenge, and the aftermath of her actions. Cutler was the first woman in Pennsylvania history to be sentenced to hang, prompting powerful 19th-century civil rights leaders and anti-death penalty advocates to join forces to try and save Cutler's life.
