ClassGraphic Music and cinema have had a long and intimate relationship. The extent to which music accents and enhances the visual in films is impossible to calculate. We’ll examine close-ups of jazz used by directors such as Louis Maille, Otto Preminger, Woody Allen, and Spike Lee in their films—that is, such musicians as Fats Waller, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Sonny Rollins, Terrence Blanchard, and Joshua Redman joining hands with filmmakers—to create an incomparable aesthetic experience. Be there or be square!
