ClassGraphic Narragansett Bay is more than the body of water we see today. Its age stretches back to 300-million-plus years as a coal swamp with origins about 640 million years ago as an archipelago that geologists have named the Avalon micro continent. We’ll explore the origins of this rift valley and its evolution to the present with descriptions of the life in the Carboniferous Period, the origins of the RI coal deposits, glaciation, and more.
