ClassGraphic Fort Adams, a National Historic Landmark, built 1824-57, remaining in active use through World War II, is the most complex coastal fortification in the United States. Best known as the host site of the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals, Fort Adams was designed to defend against attacks from both land and sea. Your guided tour will last approximately 75 minutes and involve nearly one mile of walking and provide scenic views of Newport Harbor from atop the walls, as well as access to the underground listening tunnels, deep beneath. On tour, your tour guides will discuss the history of Fort Adams and the City of Newport from the colonial period through WWII, as well as the ongoing restoration of Fort Adams and its status as a National Historic Landmark.
